Scuttling the Navy August 29, 1943:Minelayer LAALANDBy Søren Nørby, arts studentThe minelayer LAALAND was scuttled alongside its sister ship, the LOUGEN, in the Søminegraven at the Royal Dockyard. The sea cocks were opened, and when the scuttling-charge detonated at 0430, it set parts of the ship afire. LAALAND was raised on October 11th. The ship was not repaired by the Germans, and it was found with wrecked engines at the Royal Dockyard in May, 1945. It was subsequently repaired by the Danes and served in the Danish navy until 1974.
