On Saturday, August 5, the third of a total of six new vessels of the HOLM Class for the RDN was launched at the Danish Yacht A/S in Skagen.

This new vessel, pennant number A542, was painted in orange as it will serve as a surveying vessel like its sistership the BIRKHOLM, which were commissioned in April this year.

Standard Vessel Mk I

The six new  standard vessels, called Mk I, and later named the HOLM Class, as the first two vessels were named BIRKHOLM and ERTHOLM, will be equipped for a number of different tasks.

A542 and the BIRKHOLM will be fitted as surveying vessels, while ERTHOLM and the fourth unit are intended for use as training vessels, primarily for naval cadets.

The last two units are to be used as guard vessels, and can also be fitted as mine clearance drones.

The new standard vessels Mk I, the HOLM Class, are to replace a number of smaller and older navy vessels.

Together with the new Mk II vessels, currently being built, the introduction of these new types will bring a welcomed flexibility and renewal to the RDN minor vessels.
